Have you watched
this video? This is quite a sad story of a cute couple that are still living in Rector Square despite "dangerous" conditions in hopes of getting back their $50k+ deposit on a studio. We're still not exactly sure why they continue to live there (it seems as though they are renting a unit) but whatever the reason is, the nightmare conditions of that building (think exposed wires) are clearly documented.
And to add serious insult to injury, we note with at least some level of amazement that today, Michael Miller the
oxymoronic "trust" attorney is being
"forced" to sue more than 40 unit owners for non-payment of common charges. This is AFTER the developer allegedly ran off with prior paid common charges plus contributions to the PILOT tax. What an f'ing nightmare!
This whole situation just makes us think twice about buying in any undersold development.

I live in 8742 elmhurst ave in Elmhurst. I have stayed in a few buildings in New York and so far never had to deal with the management that much because they did their job. The last 2 years have been a nightmare. I moved in summer and liked the apartment even though it was one of the most expensive for the area. On the day of moving, the elevator stopped working. I had to pay extra for moving 6 floors and a 2 hour move turned into a 6 hour move. Then it took them 6 months to install a new elevator. When the winter came, there would be sporadic hot water and heat and the super who didn't even live in the building and spoke no English was of no help. The management company kept on denying that there was a heat and hot water problem. A complaint was filed with the city and they received a citation but they did nothing to change the problem. Then the last year the same thing. The representatives once told me that I was lying and there was hot water and heat. So I talked to other tenants and everyong had the same problem. Finally, I decided to move even though I am going to be in NY only for another year. If I were a lawyer and had enough time, I would file a lawsuit but unfortunately, all I can do is move.
